    Gull Rock by RR Gordon
Review by Mike Smith
Gull Rock begins with the central character, Dan Lawrie, rolling into a small seaside hamlet in north Cornwall and looking for work. The very next chapter introduces the irascible Andrew Muir who is hunting for our hero. Who is Dan? Why is he on the run? Will Muir catch him?I wonder if RR Gordon has accidentally invented a new genre of book with Gull Rock? Authors like Bernard Cornwell have made the historical thriller extremely popular but I think this type of book could be called a geographical thriller: Gull Rock is a cracking yarn told against the backdrop of a trek through one of England’s favourite stretches of coastline.

Gull Rock is like a cross between Doc Martin and The Bourne Identity. Okay, our hero, Dan, is not as hard as Jason Bourne and is more of a normal person simply trying to do his best, but I can imagine this story appearing as a Sunday evening series on television.
Can you tell that I like this book?! The only thing wrong with Gull Rock is that it’s too short – but at least you’ve got the sequel, Ramsey Sound, which is even better than the first book!
